Finding My Favorite Beach Snack — Thanks to Aki

Every year my family goes to Florianópolis for two weeks in January. We love the beaches but we always end up at the same overpriced kiosks because we don't know where the good stuff is.

This year, a friend told me to download Aki before the trip. I'm so glad I did.

The Discovery

On our first day at Praia Mole, I opened the app and saw a map with dozens of vendors nearby. I filtered by "pastel" and found Dona Célia's cart, just 200 meters away, hidden behind the main strip. Four-point-nine stars, 300-plus reviews, cash or PIX accepted.

Her cheese and shrimp pastel was the best thing I ate on the entire trip. My kids are already asking if she'll be back next year.

Beyond Food

We also used Aki to find a vendor renting snorkeling gear, a woman selling handmade friendship bracelets, and a guy doing on-beach massages. Everything we needed, all on one map.

Aki turned us from tourists into locals — at least for two weeks.
